Some Mondays

Sometimes, I think twice actually, Monday is a day when our home is clean and I don't have any catch up work to do.  But most of the time, pretty much every time, it's a day where I have to catch up.  I don't enjoy doing the dishes when I have my family around, I'd much rather spend time with them.  And so, the dishes go undone for the majority of the weekends.  And for some reason, Monday has become laundry day.  I've tried to change that and only ended up with even more work for myself the following Monday.
I could very well complain about that, but then I'm the only one to blame, because I'm in charge of getting the house in the shape that I like it.  Yes, other people can help me with the tasks, but the home is my responsibility.  I'm the one that chooses if we live in a tidy home or a chaotic one.  I'm the one that has to come up with the plans and then make them happen.
And the truth is that our home is really only a flat out disaster area about 24 hours of any given week.  That's a huge improvement for me.  Because I am perfectly okay living in filth.  I have no problem walking on my stuff to get to my bed, just ask my college roommate.  I have no problem cooking in a dirty kitchen.  I like the challenge of finding space as I need it.  I have no problem ignoring small piles around the house.  So for me, 24 hours of stacked dishes is no big deal.
But what I do enjoy is the ability to sit in my home after Monday is over and just enjoy the fact that most everything is in its place and that I don't have nearly as much work to do for the rest of the week.
What about you? Do you have a schedule that works for making your house a home?

  1. My house is chaotic more often than not. I try to have a schedule for changing sheets and laundry. I would totally rather have a slightly messy house and happy kids.

  2. There are definitely things that go undone for the sake of happiness. I am thankful that I have finally learned what my house looks like when it's clean, because then I can help it look that way more often. I'm thankful that there will be no final exam in regards to my home though, because I would probably forget to wipe the sinks and sleep late the day of the test.

Stories from the Kitchen: Taste and See

I celebrated my birthday last weekend. It was wonderful and the leftovers left me with a question or two. Find out what they are and how I'm currently answering them in this week's podcast. Tasty Tuesday: Roasted Broccoli

I ran across this recipe on Pinterest the other day that was labeled " The Best Broccoli Of Your Life. " I normally either steam our broccoli in the microwave or saute it with olive oil and red pepper flakes on the stove top. I decided this would be something to try. I did the salt, pepper and olive oil part of the recipe. I didn't have the majority of the other ingredients. In fact, all I had was a little bit of Parmesan  It was wonderful. Not the best broccoli of my life, but honestly, it was pretty close. And if I had the lemon juice and all that jazz, it may very well be the best. What have you been eating lately?

Sweet Caroline by Kelda Poynot

First off, my copy of Sweet Caroline  (aff link) is not a gifted review book, I spent my well earned Amazon No-Rush Rewards money on this book. Second of all, this is not my standard close door kind of romance. Third of all, this is a really fun read. Caroline is a hard working young lady that is doing all that she can to make ends meet and to get her graduate degree. Part of that work is renting out the room above her garage. When she answers the phone of an unknown number, believing it's a future tenant, she has no idea how much her life is about to change.  The young man on the other end of that call, Hashim, is tall, dark, and mysterious in all the right ways. The story quickly moves from the girl next door falling for a stranger to a fight for their lives. And in true real life fashion, those fights aren't just with external enemies but the ones we carry within.  It's an entertaining story of Caroline and Hashim, discovering their love for each other and fighting to
