Softly and Tenderly by Sara Evans and Rachel Hauck

Softly and Tenderly is the second book in the Songbird Novels. The main character Jade Benson is experiencing a world that is crumbling in around her on all sides. Her mother is dying of cancer, she and her husband are unable to get pregnant, her attempt to expand a successful business is coming to a messy end, she finds out that the in-laws she thought were pillars of the faith have been living a lie, not to mention that she has discovered that her husband has a child with his ex-fiancé, who just died in a plane accident. Life is pretty crazy for Jade. It’s no wonder that she begins to struggle with panic attacks and wanting to run away from it all.

The book is an adventure in turmoil and God’s grace in the midst of life. There was not huge “AHA!” moment, which has come to be expected in most current fiction. Instead there were lots of small moments that helped move Jade from where she was drowning to in the circumstances of her life, to place where she could see beyond herself and into the lives of others, helping her put her own life in perspective.

When I got to the end of the book, I was disappointed with the ending, until I realized that the story would continue in the next installment of the Songbird Novels. I eagerly await its release!

  1. A lovely story of love and faith. In Softly Tenderly the main character in the book Jade struggles with many challenges in her life. Just as she thought her marriage to the son of a prominent lawyer and prestigious family had pulled her out of her sour past, her world comes crashing down. While she cares for ill mother she is suddenly caught in the middle of her in laws lies and infidelity. At the same time the love of her life is addicted to pain killers. Things only go downhill from there until she runs into her first love, a friend needed at the right time.

Stories from the Kitchen: Taste and See

I celebrated my birthday last weekend. It was wonderful and the leftovers left me with a question or two. Find out what they are and how I'm currently answering them in this week's podcast. Tasty Tuesday: Roasted Broccoli

I ran across this recipe on Pinterest the other day that was labeled " The Best Broccoli Of Your Life. " I normally either steam our broccoli in the microwave or saute it with olive oil and red pepper flakes on the stove top. I decided this would be something to try. I did the salt, pepper and olive oil part of the recipe. I didn't have the majority of the other ingredients. In fact, all I had was a little bit of Parmesan  It was wonderful. Not the best broccoli of my life, but honestly, it was pretty close. And if I had the lemon juice and all that jazz, it may very well be the best. What have you been eating lately?

Sweet Caroline by Kelda Poynot

First off, my copy of Sweet Caroline  (aff link) is not a gifted review book, I spent my well earned Amazon No-Rush Rewards money on this book. Second of all, this is not my standard close door kind of romance. Third of all, this is a really fun read. Caroline is a hard working young lady that is doing all that she can to make ends meet and to get her graduate degree. Part of that work is renting out the room above her garage. When she answers the phone of an unknown number, believing it's a future tenant, she has no idea how much her life is about to change.  The young man on the other end of that call, Hashim, is tall, dark, and mysterious in all the right ways. The story quickly moves from the girl next door falling for a stranger to a fight for their lives. And in true real life fashion, those fights aren't just with external enemies but the ones we carry within.  It's an entertaining story of Caroline and Hashim, discovering their love for each other and fighting to
